Therefore, tetracycline is not recommended for use in children under the age of eight, except under certain circumstances when the benefits outweigh the risks.
In addition to tooth discoloration, tetracycline use in children may also lead to other adverse effects, including growth retardation, skeletal deformities, and liver toxicity. Therefore, careful consideration should be given to the use of tetracycline in pediatric patients, and alternative antibiotics should be used whenever possible.
